Adam Lambert Donates His 31st Birthday to Charity
Adam Lambert is giving back on his birthday. The pop star is turning 31 years old on Tuesday (Jan. 29) and encouraging fans to donate $31 to the We Are Family Foundation, which promotes cultural diversity around the globe.
Those who donate $31 or more to the cause will receive instructions on how to record a 10-second video, which will be a part of the “world’s biggest birthday card” to the ‘American Idol‘ alum. Those who donate less than $31 will still have a chance to sign Adam’s birthday card.
According to WAFF’s Twitter account, donations are mounting. A tweet sent on Monday (Jan. 28) read: “Update: We are closing in on $22,000 raised for @adamlambert’s birthday! So thankful to all of you!”
In addition to his donated birthday, Lambert will be performing with Nile Rodgers and Chic at the We Are Family 2012 Celebration Gala on Thursday (Jan. 31), which will also honor the singer with this year’s Unity Award. The Unity Award is presented to artists who are “spreading peaceful messages through music.”
The event will be hosted by Rosie Perez and Toure at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City, and the likes of Taylor Dayne, Grandmaster Melle Mel, Sam Sparrow, Russell Peters and Kathy Sledge will also be performing that evening. The We Are Family Foundation was founded in 2001 in response to the tragic events of Sept. 11.
