Adele Talks Vocal Surgery on Upcoming ’60 Minutes’

Adele has been quiet lately because she had to be. After having vocal cord surgery to remove polyps that caused her to table several planned tours, the women behind the best-selling album since 2004, ’21,’ was ordered to pipe down and keep quiet until she healed. So she had no choice.

However, she’s made progress and is opening up to Anderson Cooper on ’60 Minutes,’ which airs this Sunday (Feb. 12) before the Grammys.

She tells Cooper, “I had laser surgery. [They] put lasers down your throat, cut off the polyp, and kind of laser your hemorrhage back together and fix it.”

After her team of docs “fixed it,” Adele was relegated to using a notepad to communicate. Then she quickly upgraded to an app on her phone where swearing – one of her favorite things — was permitted.

“I had an application on my phone that you type the words into it and then it speaks it,” admits Adele. “But the great thing is I love to swear. Most [apps] you can’t swear on, but I found this one app where you can swear, so I’m still really getting my point across.” Who knew Adele was such a potty mouth? We love it.

Adele is speaking again and guess what? She’s singing again. Adele will return to the stage at the Grammys on Sunday in what is sure to be the night’s most anticipated performance. She expressed a little apprehension about having a relapse down the road, saying, “If I decide to go on a 200-date world tour, it would happen again.”

So, baby steps, Adele. Start with the Grammys, where we are certain you will knock our socks off.
