In Robert ZemeckisAllied there’s Brad Pitt turning over tables! There’s Marion Cotillard shooting up Nazis! There’s trickery and games and romance and war! What more could you want?

The first teaser for the WWII drama shows Pitt’s Max Vatan, an intelligence officer, meeting Cotillard’s Marianne Beausejour, a French Resistance fighter, during an intense mission in the 1940s. Zemeckis jam-packs the teaser with some pretty fantastic imagery, including a shot of Cotillard going into labor in the midst of an attack as bricks fly through the air. Here’s the full synopsis:

Allied is the story of intelligence officer Max Vatan (Pitt), who in 1942 North Africa encounters French Resistance fighter Marianne Beausejour (Cotillard) on a deadly mission behind enemy lines. Reunited in London, their relationship is threatened by the extreme pressures of the war.

The spy thriller was written by Steven Knight (Locke, Eastern Promises) and also stars Lizzy Caplan, Matthew Goode, Raffey Cassidy, Charlotte Hope, and Jarred Harris. But this period piece is really about the two leads, two untrustworthy spies pulled into a mysterious mission and distracted by love. Allied sort of looks like a serious war thriller version of Mr. and Mrs. Smith that will have a crazy twist where Cotillard is actually working for the bad guys and fooled Pitt all along. Allied opens November 23.
