Awesome Alternate ‘Gravity’ Scene Makes The Movie Even More Super [Video]
I’ve seen a lot of movies with alternate endings over the years — like the depressing original finish to Army of Darkness or that bonkers version of Die Hard With a Vengeance where John McClane spins an actual rocket launcher around on a table while riddling Jeremy Irons — and to be honest, I usually don’t think they add much to the film. They’re an interesting look into an alternate universe, sure, but I almost always prefer the final product.
Today, however, I saw an alternate opening to last year’s smash hit special effects blockbuster Gravity uploaded to YouTube by user Krishna Shenoi, and I have to admit that it changes the entire tone of the film to something I think I’d really like. Check below and see for yourself!
I never saw the original film — Neil deGrasse Tyson’s comments about how it’s scientifically inaccurate turned me off, as I tend to prefer reality-based films like Crank 2: High Voltage and Taste the Blood of Dracula — but this addition is certainly something that would’ve sparked my interest if it had made it to the big screen.
What I can’t figure out is why things were changed so radically. I mean, sure, a thriller about the horror of constantly falling in the depths of space is pretty compelling all on its own and you don’t really want to dilute a solid concept by adding in other things. And, I suppose, most Hollywood films tend to be longer than two minutes. So there’s that.
Either way, it’s nice to see this 100% legit, fully official look at what might’ve been.
