We’re curiously late in the year, to not yet know the next direction for American Horror Story, last updated to reveal that Lady Gaga’s return wouldn’t necessarily take top billing. Lest you think Jessica Lange could return to the franchise for Season 6 however, the iconic star still sees the franchise as behind her.

Lange is currently occupied by Broadway revival of Long Day’s Journey Into Night, but put in the time to speak with Charlie Rose, during which the American Horror Story question naturally came up. Although she and Ryan Murphy will reunite for the new FX anthology series Feud, and we’ve heard both discuss the possibility of Lange’s return, don’t expect Season 6 to feature any major cameo:

No, I think … you know, I had four years with that, four seasons. And each year was a marvelous character; everything changed from one year to another, which made it very interesting for me. But … no. Sometimes you come to the end of something, and it has had its natural [course].

Previously said to be working on two distinct ideas, American Horror Story Season 6 has extended open invitations for any and all past stars to return, including Sarah Paulson, Kathy Bates, Denis O’Hare, Matt Bomer, Wes Bentley, Cheyenne Jackson and Finn Wittrock. Murphy previously confirmed a shocking role in mind for Angela Bassett, who herself already seems committed, while Lady Gaga has also been confirmed to recur in some capacity.

Thus far, little else of the sixth season has been revealed, other than to expect the premiere in fall, and that the season would take place in two different time periods.

Will FX provide Season 6 details before long, if filming starts in June? Might one of the two American Horror Story Season 6 ideas take place in space? Might they both? It’s all in space, Ryan.
