It was only a matter of time before Apple got in on the scripted series game, and it seems Dr. Dre will pivot from Beats to Vital Signs to do it. The first details of his new loosely autobiographical series have arrived, with Dre both starring and executive producing.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the six-episode, half-hour Vital Signs is described as “semi-autobiographical, with each episode focusing on a different emotion and how Dre’s character deals with it,” as well as “as a dark drama with no shortage of violence and sex.” In fact, it’ll even join the annals of True Detective Season 2 with an onscreen orgy.

Music video director Paul Hunter will helm Vital Signs, with Empire co-executive producer and writer Robert Munic hand-picked by Dre to write all six episodes. Other reports also list Sam Rockwell and Mo McCrae in the cast.

Reports indicated the series will likely end up distributed over Apple Music, though it remains unclear what involvement Apple TV, the iTunes store or other Apple platforms might have. However it shakes out, all six episodes will be released at once, similar to Netflix’s model.

Neither Apple nor Dre offered much in the way of confirmations or comments, but does Vital Signs sound like a solid first entry for Apple into the TV game?
