Few people are as welcome on our televisions as Terry Crews and few felt creatures warm our hearts quite like the Muppets. In other words, if you want to sell us a Toyota, there are far worse spokespeople (and spokespuppets) to use. In the grand tradition of modern Super Bowl ads, the presumably very expensive spot starring these guys is online in advance of the big game, giving everyone who doesn't watch football a chance to remember how much they like the Muppets and that really funny guy who used to play sports-ball once upon a time.
And, of course, a chance to BUY TOYOTA BUY TOYOTA BUY TOYOTA.
If there's one thing that the trailers for 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' have shown us, it's that this movie is just going to be jam-packed full of stuff. A batch of newly released pics only serves as a reminder of just how much is going on in Marc Webb's sequel, which seems to be taking everything that was established in the first film and multiplying the craziness by 10.
We live in a world where every single video game, old TV show, cartoon and even toy line has become ripe for cinematic adaptation, and now card games are entering the fray. 'Magic: The Gathering' is one of the most popular card games ever made, so it's not surprising that 20th Century Fox is now working to bring it to the big screen on a scale that's already being compared to 'Lord of the Rings.'
We think that talking or texting during a movie is the epitome of rudeness and shouldn't be tolerated in any way. While we fully support hushing and zero-tolerance policies that eject talkers from theaters, we draw the line at physical violence and we imagine that even the most ardent movie fans would agree.
If it's set in Middle Earth, it's going to open at number one. That's common knowledge. The big question is always how big or how small it's going to open at number one. 'The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug' did open at number one this weekend, but it's a number that's going to feel controversial for people who like to bicker about box office numbers. Is it good? Is it bad? Is it disappointing? Honestly, you could make a case for all of those.
When someone guest hosts 'SNL,' it's usually because they have something to promote. Even the great Paul Rudd doesn't host the show for no reason. The man has 'Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues' coming out soon and he's got to keep the promotional train a'moving. Call this week's opening monologue a commercial if you want, but man, it's one heck of a commercial. Anything that lets us see Ron Burgundy's news team reunite to perform "Afternoon Delight" is worth the effort. Oh, and there's also that band One Direction because the kids like 'em.
Some of the best 'SNL' parodies have been specific enough to invite confusion amongst some people and we imagine that their fake trailer for 'White Christmas' will go right over the heads of certain people. But who cares? This is the best fake 'SNL' movie trailer since, well, their Wes Anderson horror movie trailer. How can anyone hate this season when they have that going for them?
In one of the biggest holiday weekends of all time, the combined might of 'The Hunger Games: Catching Fire' and 'Frozen' proved that yes, ladies can star in major blockbuster movies. We'll see if this lesson sticks (it won't), but between those two and the surprisingly female-friendly 'Thor: The Dark World,' this was a great weekend if you were looking for quality family entertainment that didn't treat its woman characters like crap.

There was no question of whether or not 'Thor: The Dark World' was going to open at number one this weekend. Of course it was. The big question was whether it would get a post-'Avengers' bump, or if it would do similar business to its 2011 predecessor. Question answered: it got a bump and a pretty good one, too.
On one level, 'SNL' should probably be ashamed of itself for being months late to parodying the infamous "What Does the Fox Say?" music video. After all, countless more timely comedy institutions got their riffs on this one out of the way ages ago. However, if anyone is going to have the final word on this memorable viral sensation, it should be 'SNL,' whose take is certainly more accurate and handsomely made than most of the competition.
It's Fall and Halloween is right around the corner, so you know what this means: pumpkins, and lots of 'em. Like us, the folks at 'SNL' know that this is the season where pumpkin products take center stage and invade every corner of your home, but unlike us, 'SNL' has the time, budget and duty to make a fake commercial that grotesquely showcases that there is one area of our lives that pumpkin flavor hasn't invaded quite yet.
