Marine Gets Life-Saving Transplant from Deceased Fellow Soldier [VIDEO]

Marine Sgt. Jacob Chadwick, 23, an Iraq war veteran who recently underwent a life-saving kidney transplant, received the organ from an unexpected source — 24-year-old fellow soldier Lt. Patrick Wayland.

The two men didn’t know each other, but after Wayland suffered a fatal heart attack while swimming in flight gear during training on August 1, Wayland’s family sought out the people it felt was “most deserving” of Patrick’s vital organs.

New Study Says Impulsive People Weigh More

We all know eating too much and moving too little can add a little extra around the waist. But can your personality lead to weight gain too?

A new study published by the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology says it’s possible.

Three researchers from the US Department of Health and Human Services followed nearly 2,000 people over a 50-year life span and found those who were more impulsive were likely to be about 24 pounds heavier than those who weren’t. They also found that subjects who weren’t terribly friendly may experience  “a greater increase in the Body Mass Index across the adult life span.”

New ‘Superbug’ Strain of Gonorrhea Resists Antibiotics

Gonorrhea, a bacterial sexually transmitted infection, used to be easily treated with antibiotics. But now, a "superbug" strain of the STD has been found in Japan and scientists fear it could become a global public health threat.

"Since antibiotics became the standard treatment for gonorrhea in the 1940s, this bacterium has shown a remarkable capacity to develop resistance mechanisms to all drugs introduced to control it," said Magnus Unemo of the Swedish Reference Laboratory for Pathogenic Neisseria, who discovered the strain with Japanese colleagues.
