I recently posted about my simple requests for a happy July 4th but forgot to mention the importantance of reflecting this time of year. This dawned on me last night while watching Saving Private Ryan. Every year sometime between Memorial Day and July 4th I like to watch a good American war flick. I know a movie could never truly give a guy like me, who has never officially served our country, an insight into what that’s like but it helps me remember why I have the rights and freedoms I do.

Fourth Of July is one of those holidays that has just not been the same since I left home. I used to spend the 4th with my cousins at the farm - which is on the lake. I have such fond memories of my cousin shooting bottle rockets at chickens - running after those parachute fireworks and getting them, even if they were in the lake - scaring animals - swimming and playing in the water... I miss these times A LOT.
