Pete Hanson’s Daily Blog: Clearing The Air
I subscribe to DirecTV. I’m not sure what channel it’s on, but early every morning there’s a program on called Sunrise Earth. It’s nothing more than a camera sitting out in a beautiful location capturing the sunrise. Birds chirping, animals scurrying about, and light music playing in the background. I love it. It is an amazing, relaxing, beautiful way to start the day.
What is not an amazing, relaxing, beautiful way to start the day is walking into the restroom here at our office. Public restrooms are generally not known for their freshness, but our men’s room has a special feature that for the life of me I cannot understand.
The exhaust fan is on a motion-activated switch.
The light and fan both are. I get the concept of wanting to save energy, but seriously…let’s put the light on the motion-activated switch, and make it possible for the fan to stay on a little longer. When the “culprit” leaves the men’s room, the fan should not be shutting off after just 60-seconds or so. That’s bad. Really bad.
Another side-effect from the light and fan being on a motion-control switch is that if you sit down in the stall and close the door to do your business you had better be quick about it. If not, you just might find yourself shuffling over to the light switch in the dark with your pants around your ankles. The light switch is right next to the door, and nobody should have to walk in on that!
Just thought you should know.
