Cottonwood Gulch Fire Tuesday Evening – UPDATE

There’s good containment news to report on the Cottonwood Gulch fire burning north of Manhattan. The fire has burned 8,300 acres and is now 80% contained.

Cottonwood Gulch Fire Evening Update

  • Date: October 13, 2015    Time of Update: 7pm
  • Date and Time of Ignition: October 11, 2015, 11:15 AM
  • Cause: Human-caused, under investigation
  • Jurisdiction: Gallatin County Rural Fire
  • Size: 8,300 acres
  • Containment: 80%
  • People Assigned to the Fire: 78
  • Resources Assigned to the Fire: 3 helicopters, 12 engines, 2 water tenders, 1 20-person hand crew
  • Injuries Reported: 0
  • Residences Currently Threatened: 3
  • Structures Burned: 1 outbuilding
  • Today’s Activities:  A weak weather front passed over the fire this afternoon with no resulting fire growth. Good work from the crews on the fire in the past 2 days has brought the containment to 80%. Most smoke from the fire today was caused by interior burning and did not threaten the control lines.
  • Planned Activities for Tomorrow: Crews will continue to secure line and mop-up the perimeter of the fire. Unless conditions change, most resources will be released from the fire tomorrow evening.
  • Cooperating Agencies: Bridger Canyon Fire, Fort Ellis Fire, Central Valley Fire, Bozeman Fire, Manhattan Fire, Rae and Sourdough Fire, Gallatin Gateway Fire, Amsterdam Fire, Three Forks Fire, Gallatin River Ranch Fire, Willow Creek Fire, Gallatin County 911, Gallatin County Road and Bridge Department, Gallatin County Emergency Management, Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office, Gallatin County Search and Rescue, DNRC, Custer Gallatin National Forest, Helena National Forest, Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest
