Demi Lovato really wants you to know that she's feeling more self-assured than ever before, and just in case the name of her upcoming album Confident doesn't tip you off, maybe this new series of NSFW photos will.

With the help of Vanity Fair photographer Patrick Ecclesine, Demi pitched the idea of a spontaneous photoshoot in which she'd be shot right then and there sans makeup, retouching and clothing.

Inspired by the recent death of her great grandfather, who has passed away the day before, Demi said: "If there’s one thing I’ve learned in the past day, it’s that life is too short. I’m about to launch an album that finally represents who I truly am. How do I embrace this new chapter in my life? How do I really walk the walk? What does it mean to be confident? It means letting go, being authentic, saying I don’t give a fuck and this is who I am. I want to show the side of me that’s real, that’s liberated, that’s free. What if we do a photo shoot where it’s totally raw? Super-sexy, but no makeup, no fancy lighting, no retouching, and no clothing. Let’s do it here, let’s do it now."

In the video above, she touches on her own definition of what it means to be confident and how it relates to the photoshoot. "When I think of confident I think of many things, but one thing in particular is feeling comfortable in your own skin," Demi said. "I thought there was something incredible about the idea of no makeup whatsoever, no clothes and no retouching. I would’ve never thought that I would’ve ever gotten to a place in my life where I’d feel comfortable doing that. It’s empowering and it shows other women that you can get to a place where you can overcome the obstacles of body image issues and you can feel comfortable and confident in yourself."

Check out the video above for a behind-the-scenes look at the shoot, and head over to Vanity Fair to see the photos.
