Gallatin County is under a Red Flag Warning from noon today until 9 p.m. Wednesday.

Conditions, including low humidity, unseasonably warm temperatures, strong and gusty winds and a wind shift with a cold front will create erratic fire behavior and possible fire starts, according to the National Weather Service.

The National Weather Service urges people to make sure any recent controlled burns are completely out and avoid use of anything that may spark fires.

A strong cold front is expected to move across the region late this afternoon and tonight. Winds out of the southwest are expected to reach 15 to 25 miles per hour with gusts up to 35 miles per hour today. Tomorrow gusts could reach up to 50 miles per hour.

Temperatures in the affected area, which includes parts of Montana, Wyoming and South Dakota, could reach mid-70s to low 80s today then dip into the 50s on Wednesday.

Affected counties include Gallatin in southwest Montana; Golden Valley, Musselshell and Wheatland in central Montana; Big Horn, Carbon, Park, Stillwater, Sweet Grass and Yellowstone in southcentral Montana; Carter, Custer, Fallon, Powder River, Rosebud and Treasure in southeast Montana; Big Horn, Johnson, Sheridan and Washakie in northcentral Wyoming; and Harding in northwest South Dakota.
