Impressive Numbers For This Year’s Big Sky Country State Fair

Fair Carnival

They are still waiting for all the numbers to come in, but early revenue projections are showing that the Big Sky Country State Fair enjoyed a terrific week, and may have even set some records.

According to Lori Cox, general manager of the Gallatin County Fairgrounds,“Our counts at all points of income are way beyond expectations. We budgeted conservatively and the results are so dramatic that I’m truly without words.”

Preliminary revenue increases show:

  • Gate Admissions: Up 26%
  • Carnival Sales: Up 14%
  • Concessionaire Sales: Up 14%
  • Purveyor Sales: Up 36%

Anderson Arena Attendance totals were as follows:

Wed., July 19 Barnyard Brawl 658

Thu., July 20 Ned LeDoux 2,220

Fri., July 21 Eli Young Band 5,004

Sat., July 22 Bozeman Roundup Perf 1 625

Sat., July 22 Bozeman Roundup Perf 2 1,768

Sun., July Bozeman Roundup Finals 921

Other key statistics include Friday and Saturday, the highest attended days, almost matching one another. Friday night’s purveyor sales were up 53 percent over Friday 2016 (Old Dominion was the entertainment) which had been a record.

Carnival sales had their best day Saturday, but not much over Friday, and even Thursday’s sales were strong.

“Our biggest days were right there with some smaller days at MontanaFair in Billings,” Cox said. “Now expectations from our guests will increase, and so will our own. Growth feels good when fairgoers are happy.”

Total attendance numbers and revenues from all categories should be out in the next couple of weeks. A final profit and loss statement will be ready by September 1.

The Big Sky Country State Fair wrapped up this past Sunday. It ran July 17 – 23 in Bozeman.
