Jay-Z Urges People to Utilize Their ‘Voice’ in Obama Campaign

While the presidential debates are a laughing matter to some, the importance of voting in the upcoming November election is plenty serious. In a new video, released on Monday (Oct. 15), rap mogul Jay-Z is encouraging people to exercise their right to vote.

Hov is endorsing President Obama in his re-election campaign and is urging voters to use the “power of their voice” on Election Day (Nov. 6). “For so long, there was this voice that was silenced out there as far as exercising your right to vote,” says a dapper Jay-Z in the video posted on Obama’s YouTube channel. “I think it was a voice that was silent because people had lost hope. They didn’t believe that their voice mattered or counted.”

The visual is also intercut with footage of Obama’s speech at Jay-Z’s Made In America festival in Philadelphia this past September. The P.O.T.U.S. saluted the rapper-turned-entrepreneur as someone who “didn’t come from power or privilege” but he learned from his mistakes and succeeded because he “refused to quit.”

The video also intercuts with patriotic images of the American flag, the Rocky statue and community organizers registering people to vote. “Now people are exercising their right and you’re starting to see the power of our vote,” continues Jay-Z who chopped it up with Obama at a fundraiser he and Beyonce coordinated recently. “He made it mean something for the first time for a lot of people, having someone in office who understands how powerful our voice can be is very important.”

Remember, Election Day is on Nov. 6. Do want Hov says and Roc your vote — it’s very important.
