When Justin Bieber says jump, Beliebers jump. That’s why when the Biebs showed his support for a fan in need by encouraging his fans to consider donating their organs, organ donor registrations saw a significant jump.

20-year-old Helene Campbell is in need of a lung transplant, and since she and Bieber are both Canadian, she figured he may be able, and willing, to help her spread the word. “Hey @justinbieber! I BELIEB you should use that Canadian voice of yours and help save lives like mine #beanorgandonor beadonor.ca #giveblood,” she tweeted last week.

Justin obliged. After re-tweeting her original plea, he responded back to her, letting her know that he’s looking out for her best interest. “@alungstory i got the word….you have amazing strength. i got u. #BeAnOrganDonor,” he said. Minutes later, he reached out to his fans directly, sharing her story by saying, “help spread the word for @alungstory http://www.alungstory.ca/ #BeAnOrganDonor.”

Taken back by his willingness, Helene reached out again to thank the Biebs for giving “the gift of life” and teaching her to “never say never” — a mantra the 17-year-old pop icon lives by. Modest as ever, he responded again, letting her (and 16.7 million others) know that he’s as genuine as he lets on. “Glad to be able to help,” he said. “Best part of what i do.”

Ontario’s Trillium Gift of Life Network reported on the impact of the Biebs’ spoken word, sharing on their Facebook page: “On Friday, Saturday and Sunday there were 565 new online registrations, thanks to Helene, her team, and all the Bielibers out there!”

By Tuesday, the group had garnered more than 1,000 new online registrations from fans eager to become organ donors. If that’s not proof of the power of social media — and the Biebs — we don’t know what is!
