Kelly Clarkson covered Madonna‘s ‘Crazy for You’ at the Riverdome in Bossier City, La. over the weekend, not only honoring a fan request but also the Material Girl herself.

Although the song was chosen by two of Clarkson’s fans (the fan requests are a feature of her latest tour), the former ‘American Idol‘ star also performed the number as an ode to Madonna, who was scheduled to sing at the Super Bowl halftime show the next day.

“I thought it would be cool because Madonna is doing the halftime show,” Clarkson said before launching into a beautiful rendition of the hit 1985 single. She added, “This is like a couple’s skate song, remember?”

Following her performance, the 29-year-old said the song took her back to her hometown roller skating rink. She also talked about not fitting in when she was a teen, and then segued into her own requests for Madonna.

“Anyway, I hope y’all like that song. We like Madonna … I hope she sings classics tomorrow. Because I like her new stuff, but I like her classic stuff. I want to hear some ‘Material Girl,’ some ‘Vogue,’ something cool.” In the end, Clarkson got exactly what she had hoped for.
