Lana Del Rey to Re-Release Lizzy Grant Album

Lana Del Rey‘s ‘Born to Die’ –check out our exclusive review– doesn’t even land until next week, but the buzzed about singer you love to hate is already thinking about her next album. Sort of. What’s old is new for Del Rey, as she plans to release her debut ‘Lana Del Ray AKA Lizzy Grant’ later this year.

Idolator reports that Del Rey told the BBC that album, which was available for purchase on iTunes for about two months and is now nowhere to found (save for YouTube clips), will not remain buried and hard to find. She said, “I’m re-releasing it, maybe in late summer.” We can never have too much Lana or Lizzy in our lives. We’d like to know when “Del Ray” became “Del Rey” and why, if there is indeed a reason.

Some deets about ‘Lana Del Ray AKA Lizzy Grant’: It cost $10,000 to make and was released digitally in January 2010 before going M.I.A. We’re guessing there wasn’t much ROI –that’s fancy talk for “return on investment”- there. Actually, Del Rey admitted that she had been signed to an indie but they couldn’t fund the effort so she actually bought the rights to the album from the label. That information should set off a storm of commentary from the haters, who are convinced she is from a wealthy family and had it easy.

Del Rey adamantly pointed out that she and her people are not trying to hide her earlier releases. “People act like it’s so shrouded in mystery, the ‘forgotten terrible album,’” she said. “But if you look on YouTube, all 13 tracks are available with millions of views, so it’s not like no one’s heard them. We were all proud of it. It’s pretty good.”

PopCrush is psyched for Del Rey to lift that imagined “veil of secrecy” on her first album later this year in proper form.
