For the first time in seven years, music sales have posted an increase -- and the surprising charge is being led by Adele, Lady Gaga, and Katy Perry.

The pop trio boasts the top-selling albums of 2011, with Adele's '21' coming out on top with 2.52 million copies sold, Lady Gaga's 'Born This Way' in second with 1.54 million units, and Katy Perry boasting more than five million in digital singles sales.

It all adds up to a 3.6 percent increase over last year, although that might have more to do with 2010's abysmal sales than a truly robust current music market -- '21' and 'Born This Way' are the only two releases to top a million units in 2011. Still, an increase is an increase. Could the music business finally be turning a corner?
