It was announced Sunday that Seeley Lake would be closed to public use so that the lake could be used safely for fire suppression.

According to the official Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks press release:

Incident: Rice Ridge Fire Wildfire

Montana Fish, Wildlife, and Parks has temporarily closed Seeley Lake to all public use.

The closure is to clear the lake of all activity, keeping the public clear of fire suppression planes and helicopters.

Fish, Wildlife, and Parks will reopen the lake to public use when the Rice Ridge Fire incident command notifies that suppression efforts no longer require the lake to be clear.

As soon as the lake is no longer needed, we'll share that information. This is an important safety measure. The lake is simply needed to combat fire.
