Simon Cowell Named in Former Friend Andrew Silverman’s Divorce Papers

When rich people get divorced, it’s almost always messy. And when the divorce involves another rich person — a really super famous one, at that — it’s not just a mess. It’s a damned spectator sport.

Welcome to the current life and times of one Simon Cowell. He’s been named in the divorce papers filed by his former friend Andrew Silverman. Because that’s what happens when you go off and get a guy’s wife pregnant.

As you probably already know, Cowell, 53, has been canoodling with Andrew’s wife Lauren for a while now. (At least 10 weeks, to be exact, because that’s how far along she is.) And while her camp is all “no really, Andrew and Lauren were totally over before that,” seems someone forgot to tell Andrew.

According to the NY Post, he filed divorce papers two weeks ago and specified “adultery” as the reason for doing so. He also named Cowell as a co-respondent — meaning the reality show judge might have to testify in front of a real judge about his relationship with Lauren, 36, and possibly even reveal details about his finances.

It was seen as a particularly vengeful move since New York has no-fault divorces (meaning no reason for the split has to be given). “It’s really a signal to the spouse who cheated that the wronged spouse is very angry and that it’s going to be a very nasty, scorched-earth, high-profile litigation,” divorce attorney Martha Cohen Stine explained.

“It’s very nasty,” agreed litigator William Zabel. “I assume it’s to embarrass them and get them to settle.”

Then again, if you’re one of the tuneless singers Simon’s rudely chastised over the years, this is just an excuse for you to get the popcorn and settle in. Because man, what a show it’s likely to be.
