Here’s some tips for hosting or attending a holiday party:
1. Clear spirits, such as gin or vodka, can be a good choice for parties and are extremely versatile and are supported by a variety of mixers. Dark spirits work well for small affairs such as dinner parties. Seasonal favorites also include wine and beer and both choices work well in almost any context.
2. As we head in to the holiday season, keep in mind that every host appreciates a guest who brings a gift of spirits to a party. The type of spirits will depend on the type of party, your relationship to the host and whether you intend the spirit as a host’s gift or for immediate consumption. If your intention is immediate consumption, ask the host what type will best fit their needs. Be a big hit by bringing 2 bottles, one for the party and one for your hostess to enjoy later!
3. What do you do with wine “leftovers”? Many wine experts and wine lovers agree that in the event you have leftover wine, it must be kept in the refrigerator. This will help the wine remain stationary in its aging cycle. Using a vacu-vin, a tool designed to pull air out of the bottle, before you put in in the frig, is also recommended. Drinking or cooking with the leftover wine within 3 days is also best.
