When we think of Montana and how many "top this or that in the United States", lists that come out, we tend to make a good portion of them. Sometimes it's a good list, sometimes a not-so-good list. Well, we have found ourselves on yet another list, and we are definitely at the top this time.

Like Homer Simpson, Montanans sure do love their brews and breweries.

We tend to have a long winter in Montana, so I do blame that for at least part of why we rank Number 1 in the United States for this.

With 90+ active breweries throughout Montana, it shouldn't be a huge surprise that we like to indulge in a glass or two of all the unique flavors. Helping us take the number one spot is also the fact that we consume 40.8 units of beer per capita. Impressive Montana!

Montana also ranks in the top 5 when it comes to the number of breweries. We actually come in at Number 3.

LOOK: Best Beers From Every State

To find the best beer in each state and Washington D.C., Stacker analyzed January 2020 data from BeerAdvocate, a website that gathers user scores for beer in real-time. BeerAdvocate makes its determinations by compiling consumer ratings for all 50 states and Washington D.C. and applying a weighted rank to each. The weighted rank pulls the beer toward the list's average based on the number of ratings it has and aims to allow lesser-known beers to increase in rank. Only beers with at least 10 rankings to be considered; we took it a step further to only include beers with at least 100 user rankings in our gallery. Keep reading to find out what the best beer is in each of the 50 states and Washington D.C.
