We've known about these cold temperatures for days but now we've got some details about how bad the wind chill will be in Bozeman and surrounding towns with this Wind Chill Advisory.

According to the National Weather Service:

WIND CHILL ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL NOON MST SATURDAY.

  • LOCATIONS: BATTLE RIDGE PASS... BOZEMAN... BOZEMAN PASS... TARGHEE PASS... WEST YELLOWSTONE... BIG HOLE PASS... CHIEF JOSEPH PASS... DILLON... MONIDA PASS... ENNIS... NORRIS HILL... RAYNOLDS PASS... TWIN BRIDGES.
  • TIMING: PERIODS OF SNOW, HEAVY AT TIMES, WITH GUSTY WINDS WILL CONTINUE THROUGH FRIDAY AFTERNOON.
  • THE SNOW WILL BE FOLLOWED BY BITTERLY COLD TEMPERATURES TONIGHT.
  • SNOW ACCUMULATIONS: AN ADDITIONAL 2 TO 6 INCHES IN THE VALLEYS... AND 5 TO 10 INCHES AT HIGHER ELEVATIONS INCLUDING THE WEST YELLOWSTONE AREA.
  • WINDS: NORTH 5 TO 15 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 30 MPH. * WIND CHILL... 25 TO 40 BELOW. VALUES MAY DROP TO 40 TO 45 BELOW FOR A SHORT TIME TONIGHT OR EARLY SATURDAY MORNING ESPECIALLY IN THE HIGHER TERRAIN.
  • SIGNIFICANT REDUCTIONS IN VISIBILITY IN FALLING AND BLOWING SNOW AS WELL AS WIDESPREAD SNOW-PACKED AND ICY ROADS WILL CREATE HAZARDOUS DRIVING CONDITIONS.
  • BITTER COLD WIND CHILL TEMPERATURES CAN CAUSE FROSTBITE ON EXPOSED SKIN WITHIN 30 MINUTES.
