Yellowstone National Park just realized its busiest August ever. In August, 916,166 people visited the park, up nearly 9% from last August.

Last year, visits were down slightly in August due to the South Entrance being closed for six days because of the Berry Fire. 2015 was the previous busiest August with 854,408 visitors.

So far this year, the number of park visitors is down just over 1%, but 2016 was a record setting year with 3,269,024 visits. Overall, Yellowstone National Park continues to see record growth.

Year-to-date visitation in 2017 is 17.4 percent higher than five years ago in 2012.
