The last couple of years has been rough for a lot of Montanans as the supply chain was disrupted over the whole pandemic.  Of course, we're now a few years removed, and yet certain items are still hard to come by.

Although we've "officially" moved on, there are now other factors that are being blamed for higher prices and lower supply.  The war in Ukraine, high fuel costs, lack of manpower, etc. It seems there are several reasons behind it, and none of them look like they're in our favor as consumers.

So what does this all mean?  Well, according to some from Yahoo and The Penny Hoarder, it means that we're looking at a possible shortage when it comes to groceries. Sadly, most of the items on the list are staples that we tend to use on a regular basis.

Here are 10 Montana Grocery Items That Could Be In Short Supply In 2023

Corn- Corn is not only a stand-alone on its own, but it is also used in many other products that could affect grocery store shelves in 2023. It seems that 2022 was a rough year due to extreme temps and pests.

Bread- Bread is something a whole lot of Montanans use every day, and according to the data, because of the war between Ukraine and Russia which produces a large amount of the world's wheat supply, we could very well see shortages.

Cooking Oil- Cooking oil could be hard to come by, especially sunflower oil and the reason for that is once again because of the war in Ukraine.  Ukraine has produced up to half of the world's sunflower oil supply in the past.

Baby Formula- The baby formula shortage looks to continue into 2023 and the reason behind it seems to be the same reason as before, recalls and labor shortages.

Canned Dog Food- If your dog is a fan of canned food, you might want to see if you can find an alternative.  The reason? We are having an aluminum shortage and that is affecting production.

Eggs- We've all been paying a whole lot more for eggs these days, and it doesn't look like that's going to change anytime soon.

Sugar- The experts are saying that we could see a shortage in sugar and the reason is that two of the world's biggest exporters (India and Brazil) are keeping more of the product for their own domestic use.

Liquor and Beer- Let's be honest, this one is going to be alarming to a whole lot of Montanans. I'm not an expert, but if I was to make a guess, I would say this might have something to do with the lack of corn and wheat.

Produce (Lettuce and Tomatoes)- Apparently, there is some nasty virus that is going around and attacking some of our most beloved veggies, and the result means less volume and higher prices.

Poultry- You can blame this one on the bird flu.  It seems that both chicken and turkey could be affected by the Avian Flu.  Because both birds are so popular worldwide, we could see a shortage that would reach Montana.  Experts are saying maybe freeze a couple if you have the storage space.
