Adam Levine Leaving ‘The Voice,’ Gwen Stefani Joining Season 17
Adam Levine has announced his departure from The Voice after serving as a coach for sixteen seasons on the iconic reality singing competition.
The news broke during the Today show on Friday morning (May 24), just days after Season 16 wrapped.
The Today show reports that Gwen Stefani will replace Levine for the upcoming season, returning to the coaches panel alongside Blake Shelton, John Legend and Kelly Clarkson.
News of Levine's departure comes two weeks after NBC announced on May 10 that all of the Season 16 coaches would return for Season 17. Host Carson Daly has also been announced to return.
The Most Unforgettable The Voice Moments Ever
Levine won The Voice three times in his 16-year tenure, but did not place a contestant in the finale in Season 16. Shelton has won The Voice more than any other coach, winning a total of six times. He won Season 2 with R&B singer Jermaine Paul before winning with a pair of country singers back-to-back. Cassadee Pope won Season 4, and Danielle Bradbery took home Season 5 for Team Blake.
Most recently, Legend won Season 16 of The Voice with Maelyn Jarmon. Shelton had three contestants going into the finale; Gyth Rigdon came in second, followed by Dexter Roberts in third place and Andrew Sevener in fourth.
Blake Shelton turned to social media to react to Levine's decision, tweeting, "Having a hard time wrapping my head around @adamlevine not being at @NBCTheVoice anymore. After 16 seasons that changed both of ours lives. I only found out about this yesterday and it hasn’t set in on me yet. Gonna miss working with that idiot."
