Every day we hear about how ridiculous the housing prices are here in Bozeman. Whether you are realizing owning a home here is damn near impossible or rent is pushing people of all ages out, housing is clearly an issue here.

I recently spoke to a husband and wife who have been here for 15 years renting, now the homeowner is selling and they have to move. They have to relocate to a different town because "BozAngeles" has pushed them out.

According to Homesnacks.com, these are the 10 cheapest places to call home in Montana. I will highlight the top three, and you guys can take it from there.

The Top 3 Cheapest Places to Live in Montana

Colstrip: This little town of a little over 2000 people came about in 1924. Although it's small, it is the largest city in Rosebud County. About 3 hours and 45 mins from Bozeman, you can definitely leave the expensive housing behind you.

In 2020, Colstrip was deemed the "Safest City/Town in Montana". You're gonna spend around $115k on a home and rent on average is under $800. If you love fishing, Colstrip is a great little town for you to call home.

Forsyth: With a little over 1600 people, this is the cute, quaint town many people search for. A hardware store, groceries, and school are all within walking distance of this 2500+ square foot home for $235k. Imagine what a house that size would cost in Bozeman! DANG. Plus a mother-in-law suite, detached and around 450 sq. feet.

Wolf Point: The largest of the top three cheapest places to live, Wolf Point has actually decreased in size and now sits around 2500 in population.

Don't let the small size discourage you though. Wolf Point is full of fun things to do including golf, breweries, fishing, hunting, and of course the Wolf Point Museum.
