Caitlyn Jenner sat down with the Today show's Matt Lauer this morning (September 9) for the first of two interviews. They discussed the former Olympian and reality star's big year, meeting up at one of Caitlyn's favorite places: The golf course.

"I'll confess to you that I was nervous before the interview," Lauer says. "Because you don't want to say the wrong thing, you don't want to make a mistake."

"To be honest with you, I'm the easiest on people," Caitlyn assured him, saying she's much less hung up on using the right pronouns than "the community," i.e. GLAAD and other LGBTQ groups. "I understand that it's difficult for people to understand this. And that's okay."

Lauer asks Jenner if there's anything she misses about living life as a man. The answer is no: "I've lived the 'ultimate male', okay? I think about my life — and where I'm at in my life right now. What a tremendous experience this is." She continues, "Hardly nobody gets to live two genders in their life."

Caitlyn also addressed the fact that her wealth and privilege protect her from many of the difficulties, employment discrimination and abuse that a lot of trans people face. "I get it. I've never had that. I've worked very hard in my life," she said (do other trans people not work hard?). "It's devastating to me, to see people dying over this issue."

Lauer and Jenner discuss her ESPY Award, the fatal auto accident Jenner was involved in back in February — she says she remembers "very little," but "you never get over it" — and jokes about her in the media. Does she find the Caitlyn Jenner Halloween costume hurtful?

No, but she does have one quibble. "I'm in on the joke. I don't think it's offensive at all. I know the community does, and [the manufacturers] have gotten a lot of criticism for doing it. I think it's great, to be honest with you! Except they could have a better looking outfit for him, you know?"

Watch the full interview above, and stay tuned for part two on Thursday.
