Nick Jonas and Demi Lovato have joined a growing number of artists who canceled their upcoming shows in North Carolina following the passing of the controversial Public Facilities Privacy and Security Act -- also known as the HB2 bill -- which is largely perceived as discriminatory toward the LGBTQ community.

The two artists -- who are gearing up to hit the road on their co-headlining Future Now Tour -- released a joint a statement via Twitter, announcing the cancellation of their shows in Raleigh and Charlotte as a show of support to the LGBTQ community. Read the full statement below:

After much thought and deliberation, we have decided to cancel our Honda Civic Tour: Future Now shows in Raleigh and Charlotte. One of our goals for the tour has always been to create an atmosphere where very single attendee feels equal, included, and accepted for who they are.
North Carolina’s discriminatory HB2 law is extremely disappointing, and it takes away some of the LGBT community’s most basic rights and protections. But we will not allow this to stop us from continuing to make progress for equality and acceptance.
We know the cancellation of these shows is disappointing to our fans, but we trust that you will stand united with us against this hateful law.

Bruce Springsteen was the first major artist to cancel an upcoming appearance in North Carolina due to the new act, writing, in part, on his official website, "Some things are more important than a rock show, and this fight against prejudice and bigotry — which is happening as I write — is one of them. It is the strongest means I have for raising my voice in opposition to those who continue to push us backward instead of forward."

Many others — Pearl Jam, Ringo Starr, Boston, Ani DiFranco, Blue Man Group -- have since followed suit. Artists like Cyndi Lauper and Mumford and Sons, meanwhile, did play in North Carolina, but announced that the proceeds from those shows will be donated to Equality North Carolina and a “local LGBTQ organization,” respectively.
