In a press conference Tuesday afternoon, Governor Steve Bullock issued a directive that prohibits landlords from evicting tenants from their homes who cannot pay rent during the stay at home order.

The directive also prohibits late fees or other penalties due to nonpayment of rent during the stay at home order, and the directive will stop residential foreclosures due to nonpayment.

Governor Bullock emphasized that the directive is not a free pass on rent or home debt, saying that tenants and home owners still need to meet obligations, and should do so on time when they can.

Governor Bullock also announced the fifth death from COVID-19 in Montana.
