This Is What A No. 1 Record Sells Like: Gwen Stefani Tops the Billboard 200
Well over twenty years deep into her career, Gwen Stefani has just scored her very first No. 1 on the Billboard 200.
In what is a testament to Stefani's massively successful return to form as a solo star over the past few months — her first outing was 2004's career-defining Love. Angel. Music. Baby — the "Used To Love You" superstar sailed in at No. 1 on this week's Billboard album chart, shifting 84,000 album units (76,000 in pure album sales) according to the chart company.
“It was really a dark time for me, so I just turned to music and it was the only thing I could think of to do to save myself...it was just, ‘Oh, my god, if I don’t go to the studio today, I’ll die, so I guess I’ll go to the studio and try to live,'" Stefani told PopCrush regarding the making of This Is What The Truth Feels Like, recording during the tumultuous period between her divorce from Gavin Rossdale and her very public pairing with fellow Voice coach, Blake Shelton.
The album comes one decade after her last studio album, 2006's The Sweet Escape, which peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard 200.
Considering she's only gone up higher on the charts with each new LP, perhaps The Truth is only the start of a new chapter in Stefani's solo discography. Congratulations, Gwen!
