How Would You Spend $1 Billion in Montana?
The Mega Millions jackpot for the drawing on Friday evening has now reached $1 billion. Of course, you won't actually get that much money after taxes.
If you won the $1 billion jackpot, you'll be able to choose between an annuity option, which consists of annual payments spread out over 30 years, or the $739.6 million (pretax)cash option, which allows you to get all of your winnings at once. It's not surprising that most people choose the cash option.
Friday's Mega Millions jackpot marks the third largest prize in U.S. lottery history.
The odds of winning the Mega Millions jackpot aren't really in your favor, though. You odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 302 million.
It may be difficult to wrap your head around winning that kind of money, but if you did, how would you spend it?
If you wanted to stay in the Bozeman area, you'd have more than enough money to buy a home. In fact, you could buy an entire neighborhood. If you prefer a slower pace, you could buy a lot of land in Montana if privacy and seclusion is what you're looking for. There are also a lot of amazing non-profits in Montana. If you felt generous, you could donate some of the money to those in need across the state.
Winning that kind of cash would be life changing to say the least. You could literally do anything you had ever dreamed of doing. You could travel the world, not think twice about it.
I'm not one to advocate gambling, but for a chance at $1 billion, I'm definitely buying a Mega Millions ticket.
