Is Bozeman The Most Expensive Town In The United States? Possibly
We all know that it's not cheap living in Montana or Bozeman for that matter. In fact, a recent report by yourbigsky.com states that the fastest growing town in Montana is in fact, Bozeman.
Well, you know what they say about supply and demand.
I recently came across an article that was talking about the most expensive towns in America. I was very surprised when I saw that Bozeman didn't make the list. Why? Well, because the median house prices here in Bozeman were more than the most expensive towns that made the list.
Yep, and not just by a little. The median house price here in Bozeman is a whole lot more than the number one town on the list. The towns making the Top 10 are:
- Vineyard Haven, Massachusetts (median house price 699.500)
- Breckenridge, Colorado (median house price 579,600)
- Jackson, Wyoming (median house price 549,800)
- Steamboat Springs, Colorado (median house price 535,300)
- Hailey, Idaho (median house price 413,700)
- Gardnerville Ranchos, Nevada ( median house price 378,800)
- Hood River, Oregon (median house price 373,600)
- Juneau, Alaska (median house price 345,900)
- Easton, Maryland (median house price 336,800)
As you can see, according to the article (which by the way was published in several different publications) the most expensive town is Vineyard, Massachusetts with a median house price of just under 700 thousand dollars.
Except for the median house price in Bozeman is more.
The median house price for a single-family home here in Bozeman is 782,500 dollars according to Bozeman Real Estate Group. For those not great with math (don't worry, I used a calculator) a median home in Bozeman is 83 thousand dollars more than the most expensive town in America. So wouldn't that make Bozeman the most expensive town in America?
It sure seems like it, right?
Apparently, there is a bit of a "grey area" though. It seems that to be considered a town, you need to be at 50 thousand or under for your population. Bozeman is just a little over that. However, when it comes to a small city, that requires a population of 100 thousand. So, we're kind of in between a rock and a hard place as far as if Bozeman is a town or a city.
Needless to say, town or city, it's crazy expensive to live here. However, I suppose when people ask you where you live, you could tell them "Bozeman, the most expensive something in America."
