I was scrolling through social media and came across something just weird enough to write about.

For those who know me, they know I'm an animal lover. My wife and I have two dogs, Fletcher and Finnigan, and they pretty much rule the roost.  Fletch is a Black Mouthed Cur, which is what Ole Yeller was in the book, and Finni is a European Basset Hound. They're both spoiled (I blame my wife), and we consider them our fur babies.

It's no secret that Montana is one of the biggest states for dog lovers. We live in Bozeman, and there are tons of Dog Parks and public places where you can bring a well-behaved canine. But did you know that dogs aren't the only animals we love here in Big Sky Country?

According to some data, Montana is the perfect place for this furry 4 legged friend, and it's not a dog.

The TikTok user Today In History decided to research each state to find out what they were best at and what it was worst at. So, what is Montana best at? Before we share that with you, let's tell you what we're worst at.

Internet Service.

According to the site, Montana has the worst internet service out of all 50 states. Even worse than places like Alaska, Wyoming, and the Dakotas. While I'm not totally surprised by this, I was surprised at what we're best at. So, what does Montana do better than any other state?

Which animal lives the longest in Montana?

Apparently, we are the best place in the country to....raise a cat.

Yep, you read that right. Montana is the best state to raise a cat. According to the data, cats live longer here than in any other state. So, for all of you feline fanatics reading this from out of state, you should know we have a very high cost of living here before you decide to pack up the catnip and head this way.

What is it about Montana that makes it so great for cats? It seems that they didn't go into a lot of details, but I did a little research, and this is what they suggested:

  • High number of spayed and neutered cats
  • Indoor living
  • Low number of infectious diseases

Oh, and you know how we talked about how dog-friendly Bozeman was? Well, they also have a Cat Cafe where you and your favorite feline can hang out and chill.

The Hell's A-Roarin' Horse Drive

The Hell’s A-Roarin’ Horse Drive happens every Memorial Day weekend in Gardiner, Montana, as hundreds of horses are driven from the rodeo grounds up to the mountain town of Jardine. Hosted by Susan and Warren Johnson of Hell’s A-Roarin’ Outfitters, this Western tradition honors veterans and supports them in a meaningful way. All net proceeds from the event’s live auction go toward purchasing Action Trackchairs—custom, all-terrain wheelchairs that help disabled veterans regain their freedom and access to the outdoors. It’s a powerful mix of community, heritage, and heartfelt purpose.

LOOK: Here are the pets banned in each state

Because the regulation of exotic animals is left to states, some organizations, including The Humane Society of the United States, advocate for federal, standardized legislation that would ban owning large cats, bears, primates, and large poisonous snakes as pets.
