Dear Montana Pizza Lovers, Does This Belong On Pizza? Yes Or No?
I would like to settle a debate that's been going on for years.
It was recently National Pepperoni Pizza Day, and in honor of that, I asked Montanans what their favorite pizza topping was. Surprisingly, one of the most popular answers was...pineapple. It seemed that some folks were almost embarrassed to say pineapple was their favorite topping, almost like they were doing something wrong, and according to some folks, they are.
There are people that totally believe that pineapple has no business being on pizza.
Pineapple isn't my favorite topping, and I would never order it on a pizza, but I'm also not that picky when it comes to pizza, so if someone offered me a slice with the fruit on it, I'd eat it.
So who came up with this whole pineapple on pizza craze? Probably someone in some warm, tropical climate where pineapples are plentiful, right? Actually no, apparently pineapple pizza was invented in Ontario, Canada back in the 1960s by a Greek immigrant that had a restaurant. The man did it on a whim, and the customers loved it.
There are all sorts of combos that folks love. The Hawaiian, which is ham and pineapple, is the most famous pizza featuring pineapple, but apparently pepperoni and pineapple are a popular choice as well.
So, let us get down to it. What do Montanans think? Does pineapple belong on pizza? Or is that just not an option? Make sure you vote in our poll!
