Here in Montana, there's a large population of folks that not only love the outdoors, but embrace it by hunting, fishing, and living off the land.

Even if you've never hunted a day in your life, chances are you know one of the most famous hunting families in America and unfortunately, we have some sad news to report regarding the patriarch of the family.

Just over a decade ago, a little-known family from Louisanna burst onto the scene through A&E. The Robertson family and their show Duck Dynasty would go on to become "must-see" TV with all of the funny plot lines and different characters. Leading the charge was the father of the family, Phil Robertson.

Robertson, known for his wisdom, quick wit, and strong faith, has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's along with a type of blood disease. The family confirmed the heartbreaking news on December 6 during Episode 1003 of their "Unashamed with the Robertson Family" podcast. At 78, Phil is in the early stages of the disease, a diagnosis that has profoundly affected his close-knit family.

Jase announced on the podcast:

"Phil's not doing well... We were trying to figure out the diagnosis, but according to the doctors, they are sure that he has some sort of blood disease causing all kinds of problems... and he has early stages of Alzheimer's. So if you put those things together, he's just not doing well."

Phil is a father to Jase, Al, Jep, Willie, and Phyllis, and married to Miss Kay for over six decades, so he truly has the best family support possible.

Who is Phil Robertson?

Robertson, who went to college on a football scholarship rejected the NFL so he could spend his time doing what he loved. For those who are curious, Robertson's backup in college was none other than NFL Hall of Famer Terry Bradshaw.

Through the show, the family became loved and adored by millions through their reality show, which showcased their duck-hunting business, faith, and family values. Phil, who has always stayed true to his roots and had a no-nonsense way about him, became a beloved personality even after the show ended in 2017.

In a heartfelt moment during the podcast, the family spoke about how their faith is guiding them through this difficult time. The family has said they have received an overwhelming amount of love and prayers since the news broke.

The Robertson family is determined to ensure Phil's quality of life continues, and, of course, a team of doctors is working with them to address the health issues.
