So which is it? Tall, dark, or handsome?  According to a report from Newsweek, Montana produces some of the tallest men in the United States.

How tall is the average Montana man?

According to the statistics, the average height of a Montana male is just under 5 foot 11 inches. That height puts Montana in first place among the 50 states for the tallest average height.

Now, to be fair we are tied with a few other states such as South Dakota, Utah, Nebraska, Tennesse, and Alabama. However, first place is first place! Plus, that's the average height, meaning you'll find some pretty tall fellows here in Big Sky Country.

As someone who is 6'2, I'm always shocked at how many folks I run across here in Montana who are taller than I am. Oh, and here's some interesting information, apparently there are benefits to being tall.

What are the benefits of being tall?

According to the Huffington Post, there is some actual science that says tall people are likely to have the following:

  • higher intelligence
  • lower risk of diabetes
  • higher salary
  • lower risk of heart disease
  • more confidence
  • happier

While being "tall" doesn't guarantee all of the above, it's certainly something to think about. Especially the confidence part of it.  With confidence comes the opportunity to achieve all of those other things with the exception of maybe the health stuff.

Plus, have you ever heard of "tall man syndrome"? I haven't, but we're all familiar with "short man syndrome". So, for all of us tall Montana men out there, celebrate! Let's just try not to look down on everyone else.
