Montana’s Fastest Growing Town…And It’s Not Bozeman

While I've lived in Montana for years, I moved away and then decided to move back at the worst possible time.

It was during Covid and here in Bozeman the price of homes and apartments where through the roof. People were buying houses site unseen and they were paying hundreds of thousands of dollars for them. Just trying to find an apartment to rent at that time was insanity, it's amazing how things have changed in the last few years.

This isn't one of those articles about how expensive Bozeman is, I write plenty of those. No, this is an article about the fastest growing town in Montana and it's not Bozeman.

While folks moving to Montana has slowed down a bit, people are still coming, it seems however that the new flavor of the month is no longer the once small cow town that was transformed into a bogie paradise for those looking to fill their Instagram with photos in a ten year period.

Don't get me wrong, people are still moving to Bozeman and the surrounding towns, but the fastest growing town in Montana is a little more west.

What's the fastest growing town in Montana?

According to the U.S. Census, this Montana town has grown 40 percent in the last 15 years. So, which town are we talking about?

Kalispell, of course.

Located close to both Flathead Lake and Glacier National Park, Kalispell is a beautiful town with a mixture of both old and new. With businesses like Wheeler Jewelry, Kalispell Mercantile, and Kalispell Malting and Brewing celebrating well over 100 years of service, the town continues to grow to meet the demand of the newcomers.

Is Kalispell the new Bozeman?

It some ways, it would seem so. However, it's still a more affordable than Bozeman with the average single family home price averaging at just over 600 thousand in Kalispell.
