
Montana’s Unusual Winter Brings A Grizzly Bear Sighting
Well, it's official, the first Grizzly Bear was spotted in Yellowstone.
The big bear was spotted in the Northern part of the park dining on a bison carcass. So, why is this just a big deal? Well, it's always talked about when the first Grizzly is sighted and it also just so happens that this one is especially early.

Of course, that makes sense as were in the middle of one of the strangest winters in Montana history.
This brings up something important that we need to discuss, what to do if you encounter a Grizzly Bear in the wild. Now, most folks have educated themselves, but let's be honest, lots of tourists will be heading to Big Sky Country and they might not be prepared.
How do be safe in bear country.
According to the National Park Service, here are some things that you need to know as you head outdoors and into the wilderness.
- Be Alert - It's easy to get lost in the beauty that is Montana, but it's important to make sure that you're always aware of your surroundings.
- Hike During Daylight Hours - This is just common sense. If you are out in the woods at night, remember the things you can't see, can see you. It's important to hike during the daylight so you can have better vision of your surroundings.
- Stay on Maintained Trails - While the desire may be there to take off on your own to do a little exploring, remember it is important to stay on the trail. Getting off the trail can often lead to being lost and putting yourself in an unfavorable position.
- Avoid Carcasses - If you come across a carcass in your exploration, make sure you don't stick around. Bears are known to defend a carcass from other animals and humans.
There are just the basics, and there are others things you need to know as you take in the beauty of Montana. Remember, to be safe and always be on the lookout for your safety and the safety of those who may be with you.
