Montana Ranks Among The Drunkest States In America. Who’s #1?
There's a lot to do in Montana.
We're the type of state that no matter the season, we've got something going on. Hiking, rafting, floating, fishing, skiing, hunting, drinking...Yes, I said drinking. Let's be honest, most Montana's enjoy a drink or two. I mean, we do have well over 100 breweries and distilleries across the state, plus a ton of bars that serve residents 21 and older.
Then there is the alleged story about the Bobcat fans being so thirsty during the National Championship game in Nashville that we drank the downtown dry.

How much alcohol do Montanans drink?
For those of you who are curious, we do consume a lot of alcohol here in Big Sky Country, but we aren't the drunkest state in America. In fact, we aren't even in the Top 5.
So, where do we rank?
According to the data, Montana is the 8th drunkest state in the United States being beat out by states like California, Colorado, Delaware, North Dakota, and Wisconsin. Now, when it comes to the amount of booze the average Montanan drinks, let's just say, it's impressive.
How much does the average Montanan drink?
The average Montanan drink just over 3 gallons of alcoholic beverages a year. While that may not seem like a lot, remember, it's an average. Most of the alcohol consumption comes from beer. Montanans are known to enjoy beer at "barbecues, camping, and hunting".
Oh, and if you were wondering, New Hampshire does take the top spot with almost 4 and half gallons per person.
While some of these numbers may seem surprising, what isn't is that majority of the states that made the list are "northern" states which could come into play as far as the amount consumed. I mean, if it's 40 below outside and there's nothing to do, some folks just drink.
