If you spend any time on social media in Montana, then you are well aware of all the negativity.

Social media has become a place where folks feel free to spew hate at a pretty rapid pace. For whatever reason, we tend to think that our opinions are super important and that everyone on our social media feeds wants to hear what we have to think, and even if they don't, we still choose to share them.

Oh, and here is the crazy thing. It's just not kids and young people who are trolling online, some of the worst Montana trolls out there are grown a$$ adults who probably should know better.

Montana has some social media sites that can turn pretty ugly, pretty quickly.  Sites like "The Real Ask Bozeman" where people can ask questions, often turn into a train wreck with folks going after other folks and things becoming personal.  It's become so bad that many of the contributors just post anonymously so they don't have to deal with all of the backlash.

Of course, this isn't the only Montana social media page where this happens.

So where does Montana rank compared to other states when it comes to online trolls? Top 5? Top 10? Top 20? Actually, no. In fact, according to data from TechRepublic, Montana is nowhere near the top.

I'll be honest, I was a little shocked to learn that Montana is one of the better states when it comes to online trolls. Out of the 50 states, Montana comes in at 45th. Which means 44 other states are worse than The Treasure State.  So, is it possible that maybe we think the trolling here in Montana is worse than it is?

It certainly seems so.

Especially when you consider the information that comes from the site website builder expert which ranks Montana as the 9th friendliest state online.
