Big Sky, Big Bucks: Could Your Wallet Hold a $150,000 Payday?
Striking it rich by finding buried treasure isn't likely—trust me, I've spent plenty of time thinking about it. As a metal detecting enthusiast, my biggest discoveries so far have been bottle tabs and loose change, not exactly life-changing fortunes.
Montanans, it's time to check the dollar bills in your wallet or those buried in that old coat pocket!
Believe it or not, a simple dollar bill in your wallet could be your ticket to earning up to $150,000.

Currency collectors are willing to pay big bucks for your 1 dollar bills IF they fit within specific criteria. The US Bureau of Engraving and Printing made a big whoopsie, duplicating the same serial numbers on 6.4 million pairs.
Why did the currency duplication happen?
Paper money in America is printed in two different locations. One is in Washington, DC, and the other is in Fort Worth, Texas. The money then travels to one of the 12 Federal Reserve banks and is put into circulation.
In 2014, a batch of $1 bills was ordered to be printed in the Washington, DC facility, and in 2016, the same request was sent again to the Forth Worth, Texas location.
All printed money is supposed to have its very own unique serial number, and with these duplicates circulating, it has collectors on the hunt.
According to WealthyNickle.com, here is what you should look for on your dollar bills...
- The Series date located near the photograph of George Washington must read "Series 2013."
- The bill must have a "B" Federal Reserve Seal above the serial number
- The serial number must end with a star (*) and fall between B00000001* – B00250000* or B03200001*-B09600000*
WOW! You have one of these dollar bills! Now What?
We have been discussing duplicate misprints, which means you've got to find the serial number matching yours. There is a website called Project2013B that has created a database with over 36,000 registered bills searching for their partner.
As of early 2024, only 37 pairs have been found. Check any loose bills laying around the house and start treasure hunting! Good luck!
