Two Montana Highways Voted Among Best Scenic Drives In America
Sometimes there's nothing better than getting in your vehicle and being on the open road.
For decades, Americans have hit the highways across our great country. While there are certainly more famous roads, like Route 66, The Blueridge Parkway, and Highway 1 in California, this country has some stunning scenery along our highways and roads.
Here in Montana, we're no stranger to scenic drives, in fact, according to one publication, Montana has more than one highway or road worth checking out.
As the leaves start to change as we prepare for Fall, driving across Big Sky Country to check out the autumn colors seems like a pretty decent thing to do on a Montana weekend.
Motor Junkie came out with its list of The Top Scenic Roads To Drive In The United States and let's just say Big Sky Country is well represented. Motor Junkie put together a list of the 55 best scenic drives and Montana has 2 different drives on the list.
So what Montana roads made the list?
First up, and coming in 12th on the list is The Beartooth Highway.
Considered by many to be the prettiest road in the nation, the Beartooth is extremely popular with tourists. Of course, due to its location and elevation, it's only open part of the year, however, the views are stunning and it's often hard to capture its beauty in photographs. It's a perfect day trip and there is plenty to see along the way.
Next, and coming in 10th on the list is Going To The Sun Road.
Located in Glacier National Park, Going To The Sun Road is an absolute bucket list item. While you are more than welcome to drive the road on your own, many choose to take guided tours so they can sit back and enjoy the views. Much like the Beartooth, the road is only open part of the year, however, over the summer months millions of people travel the road each year.
While there is no doubt that both the Beartooth and Going To The Sun roads are the most popular in the state, there are many other scenic drives that both locals and visitors can enjoy here in The Treasure State.
