The Government Made It Easy To Cancel Memberships in Montana
This move will be an absolute game changer for many customers.
Canceling Memberships
It's always a pain in the neck.
Everyone has a membership to something these days.
Folks have memberships to gyms, streaming platforms, and many other services.
Why? It's like a cable or phone bill. You want some amenities you can use during your free time, and memberships are affordable.
Recurring memberships are a part of daily life.
What's the problem with them?
It can be an absolute nightmare to cancel some of these memberships.
Gym and streaming services can make you jump through several hoops to cancel your membership.
There are multiple confirmations, and some gyms require a handwritten letter. We haven't even brought up a cancellation fee.
It's ridiculous, but things are about to change.
FTC's Click-To-Cancel Plan
The Federal Trade Commission is here to help.
The FTC announced the 'Click-To-Cancel' Plan.
What does this entail?
Within five months, companies and businesses must allow consumers to cancel their memberships with one click.
This plan also includes companies are not allowed to bully customers into not canceling by charging fees.
This move by the FTC has been in the works for over a year.
Over 16,000 people wrote to the FTC to fix this massive problem, and we have a resolution now.
Review of This New Plan
This whole plan is a plus for consumers.
Some folks have kept membership plans for gyms or streaming services because of the lengths businesses will make you deal with to cancel.
Gyms and other businesses in Montana will have to figure out how to accommodate this new plan by early 2025.
It looks like we can save money easier in the new year.
