Flying Internationally Out of Montana

Most Montanans believe you only need a passport to travel internationally.

That is not true.

Many countries require travelers to fill out more paperwork before entering their country.

In some countries, you would need a travel visa or more documents to enter.

One of the painless places to travel to was the United Kingdom.

All you needed was your passport to visit England, Scotland, Wales, or Northern Ireland, but things are about to change.

UK Travel Changes in 2025

The Points Guy reports starting in 2025, travelers will have to obtain an electronic travel authorization to travel to the United Kingdom.

Why?

This new ETA is for a more complete background check. The United Kingdom wants to know who is coming into their country with a more thorough background check.

This new background check comes with a fee. It's around $13.

One nice aspect of this ETA is that it's approved for two years and obtainable within three days.

This new policy kicks off on January 8th, 2025, and travelers can start applying for the ETA at the end of November.

We hope this helps Montanans plan their next international trip.
