Some people Big Sky Country is still the Wild West. With our old tales of ghost towns, old forts, and cowboy culture, can you blame them?
With shows like Yellowstone furthering people's opinions of what Montana must be like, it's hard to be certain stigmas.
When I would visit relatives out of state or tourists would come to my hometown, there were constant questions about Montana.
These questions still happen today.
We've heard stories from folks getting asked when the cowboys ride their horses on Main Street.
As ridiculous as that sounds, some other myths or tales about Montana that are more laughable.

We asked listeners and coworkers the most ridiculous myths or tales they've heard from outsiders or tourists about Montana.
Let's say these myths will blow your mind.
- We Barely Have Paved Roads- We have all heard this. Some folks believe other than our interstates, Montana only has dirt roads to get around. That's ridiculous. We have dirt roads, but those are out in the country.
- We All Ride Horses- Montanans aren't all ranchers, cowboys, or farmers. It also isn't the 1800s.
- Teepees- This question was a constant growing up on a Native American reservation and we still hear it asked today. No one lives in teepees full-time anymore.
- We Live In Harmony With Wildlife- Montanans aren't Disney princesses. We respect the wildlife and give them space when hiking, camping, or on the roads. Also, Montana isn't a petting zoo. Stop trying to pet the wildlife.
These are only a few myths or tales we've heard over the years, and it's ridiculous.
Some of Montana might still have some rustic roots, but we are a modern society.
Maybe one day, outsiders will learn to forget these ridiculous stories about Montana.
