Law Enforcement Details Startling Murder Investigation in Bozeman

The Gallatin County Sheriff's Office released information regarding their investigation into a recent homicide near Bozeman.

According to a press release sent out on Wednesday, the Gallatin County Sheriff's Office responded to reports of gunshots at 50 Cliff Manor Ln., approximately 10 miles south of Gallatin Gateway in Gallatin Canyon Tuesday evening at approximately 6:45 p.m.

When law enforcement arrived on the scene, they found a male, identified as 53-year-old Jason Jones, deceased. Preliminary findings showed that the victim died from multiple gunshot wounds. A witness reported that the female had shot a male and fled the scene in a pickup truck.

Investigation indicated the suspect to be 50-year-old Kimberli Jones, Jason’s wife.

Gallatin County 911 received a call from a person recreating near Hyalite Reservior indicating that they had discovered a body on Tuesday night. With that information, responders were able to locate the body of Kimberli Jones. She was deceased due to a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The incident is still under investigation at this time.

Wednesday morning, Gallatin County Sheriff Dan Springer provided an update on the murder-suicide investigation.

The incident marks the second homicide investigation this year in Gallatin County. In July, an individual was stabbed to death at a residence in Bozeman.

The Park County Sheriff's Office is currently investigating a homicide after a body was found in a camper south of Livingston in September.
