Popular Retailer With Stores in Utah and Montana Plans Closures
When I was growing up, a trip to the mall was a really big deal. My mom would drop me and my brother off in the arcade while she wandered around shopping. Honestly, I didn't care about the mall as much as I did the arcade. In recent years, some of the most iconic retailers that were once household names have shuttered. Sears is one example. Now, another major retailer has announced plans to close 50 stores across the country in 2024.
If I needed a nice outfit for a school function or special event when I was a kid, my mom always took me to Macy's. In fact, the first suit I ever bought was purchased at Macy's. The departement store is as American as apple pie. Now, it seems that the retailer has fallen upon tough times.

Macy's currently has over 500 stores in the United States, but recently announced places to close 50 stores in 2024, over around 100 over the next few years. According to CNN, the retailer is downsizing and will close 150 stores. By 2026, only 350 stores will remain. Macy's also plans to build 30 smaller stores away from malls in the next two years. Since 2015, Macy's has closed around 300 stores.
WHICH MACY'S STORES ARE CLOSING?
The company didn't specify which stores will close in 2024, but will focus on underperforming stores. Macy's has two locations in Utah, and one location in Montana. The Utah stores are in Salt Lake City and Murray. The Montana location is inside of the Gallatin Valley Mall in Bozeman. In 2021, Macy's closed a store in Sandy Utah, according to Fox 13 News in SLC.
As of right now, Macy's hasn't announced plans to close any of the locations in Utah or Montana.
