Montana's Oldest Saloon Announces Reopening Celebration
The Bale of Hale Saloon in Virginia City is one of the oldest continually operating watering holes in America, and it is by far the oldest in Montana. It first opened in the 1860s, and the establishment has been a cornerstone of Montana’s rich frontier legacy for well over a century.

Inside, you’ll find classic wooden floors, vintage décor, and the kind of rustic vibe that transports you back to a simpler time when cowboys, miners, and settlers would kick back after a long day on the range. The Bale of Hay Saloon isn’t just a place to grab a drink; it’s a living piece of Montana’s history.
For much of the summer, the Bale of Hay Saloon has been closed, but a reopening date has been announced.
If you're free on Saturday, head to Virginia City to celebrate the Bale of Hay Saloon. It's a relatively short drive from Bozeman, and it's a great way to spend a beautiful summer day in Montana.
We're excited to hear that the Bale of Hay Saloon is reopening, and we can't wait to stop in for a nice cold drink.
